The Bachelor of Arts in History (BA History) is a four-year program that trains students to think and work as historians: to read critically, evaluate evidence, and write historical narratives and analyses grounded in sound methodology and research ethics. It builds strong competencies in historical research, data gathering and evaluation, and scholarly writing, while also forming students who can communicate effectively, work in diverse teams, and apply historical understanding to community life, heritage, peace-building, and development concerns—consistent with MSU–IIT’s thrusts and the values of TATAK IIT (excellence, leadership, innovation, respect for diversity, environmental responsibility, and peace advocacy).

Graduates of the BA History program are expected to be able to:
- Keep abreast of developments in the field of practice .
- Communicate effectively using English and Filipino, orally and in writing.
- Work effectively and independently in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams .
- Exemplify professional, social, and ethical responsibility in academic and related work.
- Preserve and promote Filipino historical and cultural heritage.
- Advocate for peace in multicultural settings through community-based and culturally sensitive engagement.
- Apply concepts and theories in arts/social sciences in the analysis of social issues.
- Design and execute research in arts/social sciences using appropriate approaches, including multidisciplinary approaches.
- Practice professional and ethical standards in arts/social sciences, including proper source citation in academic and research work.
- Participate in peace, environment, or development efforts through community involvement and related engagements.
- Conduct historical research and historical writing, including evaluating and synthesizing historical data and articulating historical methodologies, strategies, and approaches.
- Conduct, analyze, and write historical research relevant to national development and strengthening national identity.
- Demonstrate knowledge and applicable skills to analyze major political, economic, social, and cultural issues influencing global foreign affairs.
- Exemplify historical training that enables relevant professional work outside the academe.
- Teach in secondary and primary levels with a strong background in local and international history, supported by appropriate teaching knowledge and performance.
In the upper years, students deepen this foundation through a track system that allows them to specialize according to their interests and intended career pathways. Students select a track in the third year (second semester), subject to department approval and faculty availability.
Philippines-Asia Track
Philippines-Asia Track
This track develops students’ capacity to conduct and write historical research that strengthens national identity and supports national development, with emphasis on Philippine history and the country’s historical relations within Asia.
International Track
International Track
This track centers on international concerns and prepares students to analyze major political, economic, social, and cultural forces shaping the world, enabling them to interpret regional and global developments through historical perspective.
Public History Track
Public History Track
This track prepares students for professional historical work beyond the academe by training them for applied practice in areas such as heritage work, archives, museums, and public-facing historical projects.
Education Track
Education Track
This track prepares students for teaching in primary and secondary education, combining a strong historical foundation with professional education courses that support effective classroom practice and supervised teaching preparation.
